On January 1, 2019, two of the world’s leading science and development organizations focused on forestry and agroforestry, the Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and World Agroforestry (ICRAF) began merging in order to provide the evidence and solutions needed to scale up investment in sustainable development and address the global challenges of our time. The Role

The position holder is expected to design, deliver and lead a resource mobilization programme to generate revenue for CIFOR and ICRAF and maximize income from existing and new engagements, including blended finance, impact investment, venture capital and other innovative funding mechanisms as we build and strengthen strategic partnerships.

Responsibilites

  • Ensure internal processes for efficient and effective full cost recovery proposal development of highest quality as well as overview of funding projections
  • Support the Directors General of CIFOR and ICRAF in fundraising and financial investments and innovative funding projects.
  • Contribute to the development of operational strategy and impact pathways.
  • Implement and actualize CIFOR and ICRAF fundraising: deciding which donors and investors to approach, who should visit them, when, about what, how and with what resources; lead pipeline meetings; maintaining high levels of stewardship of donors and investors.
  • Build CIFOR and ICRAF Resource Mobilization team: recruit professionals and building their capacity, manage their performance, create ethos of delivery and accountability, and ensure quality intelligence gathering, regular reporting, development of quality proposals, and capturing of data in pipeline.
  • Smooth functioning of Resource Mobilization systems: ensure the responsiveness of operational support functions essential for success and the continual improvement of these support functions. Ensure pipeline and donor database management is fit for purpose.
  • Responsible for Investor and Partnerships Relations (IPR) performance of CIFOR and ICRAF: provide actionable intelligence, competitive analysis, coordinate external relationships with donors and investors, and acting as lead proposal manager for selected exceptional bids.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of advanced degree from an accredited institution in any technically relevant field (e.g. agriculture, forestry, business, economics, international relations, international business/finance, international development).
  • Extensive experience in IPR; previous work with philanthropy or financial institutions is an advantage.
  • Experience with change management and organizational development is an advantage.
  • Professional knowledge of innovative and blended finance; experience an advantage.
  • At least 10-15 years working experience resulting in: Progressive experience in international fundraising/proposal development, and IPR management for an international research or development organization.
  • Tangible and demonstrated understanding of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and issues pertaining to climate, Natural Resources Management (NRM), forests, livelihoods, landscapes.
