With over 690 million users, your LinkedIn profile is as important as ever when it comes to applying for job opportunities. Our research team, as well as our consultants, regularly use the platform when identifying and screening candidates; here are Oxford HR’s tips on how to make the most out of LinkedIn.

  • Keep your LinkedIn profile aligned with your CV and up to date with your most recent roles.
  • Have a clear and professional profile photo – this is often the first time a recruiter will see you.
  • Within the About section, include a statement on what motivates you in the workplace or your career. This is particularly important if you are keen to change careers or switch sectors (perhaps from private to for purpose). Also include additional (perhaps voluntary) activities that reflect relevant experience or evidence motivation.
  • Be careful what you post. Whilst it can be tempting to treat it as you would another social media platform, it is first and foremost meant to be used in a professional capacity.
  • Ask your colleagues for recommendations; these act as miniature references and reinforce your experience.
  • Use LinkedIn! LinkedIn can be a great tool for networking and engaging with likeminded professionals and organisations.
