Aid and Sustainable Development Leadership
Australian development and humanitarian Non-Government Organisations deliver aid in more than 95 countries globally. They receive public donations from all parts of Australia totalling over A$1 billion. In addition, the Australian Government is investing $4 billion in development assistance in the Indo-Pacific region. The New Zealand Government has allocated over $1.1 billion to development assistance in the Pacific over three years.
An ever-increasing range of stakeholders including NGOs, government, private sector and international organisations collaborate, and yet the need for action in multiple development areas is on the rise. Action on climate change has reached crisis point and global poverty isn’t improving quickly. There are innovative new technologies emerging that will impact positively and bring about increased opportunities, but these also bring about sustainability and power issues that need careful consideration.
