About The Green Party
There can scarcely be a more exciting time to lead the communications team in a political party committed to fundamental change. The public and media are looking for new and inspirational ideas, and the Green Party have some exceptionally talented spokespeople.
As a Party they have an ambition and are already on course to become the third biggest party in England and Wales by 2022, a feat which has already been achieved on the London Assembly and London Mayoral vote. Their total number of elected representatives is steadily growing and their political influence over the past 10 years has increased significantly.
They recognise that successful politics tends to be based on step changes rather than slow and steady growth, and their new Head of Communications will be pivotal in identifying and enabling them to ride and harness the appropriate waves of public opinion.
You will be tasked with developing and coordinating their communications and messaging strategies and overseeing the Party’s issue-based campaigns. You will be the Manager of the Green Party’s Newsroom, with overall responsibility for the strategic direction of Party Communications and you will form part of a senior management team within the Party’s national staff, reporting to the Chief Executive.
You will ensure that the Party’s communications strategies and activities are effective at positioning the Party, influencing voters, and re-framing political discussions and the wider perception of the Party and its aims. You will lead on building strong media relationships, ensuring wider and deeper coverage of the Party, its vision and policies. You will play a lead role in delivering the Party’s political and organisational strategies and guiding and leading staff in their communications team.
To achieve this, you will bring experience of managing communications for a political or other sizable campaigning organisation; developing and delivering strategic communications and campaign plans and strategies; developing staff and their contributions to communications and campaigning activity and you will have led and managed communications and campaigns work in organisations with complex stakeholder relationships and expectations. They also very much welcome applications from candidates with equivalent journalistic and / or newsroom experience.
