Finding Chairs, Trustees and Non-Executive Directors for NGOs and Social Enterprises
Governing Bodies
Most organisations have a group of people on their Board – often non-executive, paid only expenses and part-time – who provide overall guidance, strategic direction and support to social enterprises and NGOs.
They may bring "hard" skills in specific areas - relevant technical expertise (agriculture, health, education, etc.), finance, HR, or in-depth knowledge on a particular country or region; or "soft" skills: management, organisational development or team-building.
Whatever their specific contribution, they work with their colleagues to add value to the Board and the organisation.
Board / Trustee Chairs [1]
There are few appointments in an organisation – whether not-for profit, social enterprise, or commercial – more important to the success of the enterprise than the Chair of the Board.
He or she will give direction and leadership for the whole organisation, will often be a public 'face' for the organisation, and will often be the direct line manager of the CEO[2].
It is essential that organisations find effective, successful, active people who can spare the time and energy to contribute to the enterprise in this role.
Finding Suitable People
Oxford HR is very well connected into both the not-for-profit and the commercial worlds and we know many people who can bring wide experience and a range of skills to your governing body. We have in-depth skills at finding and selecting people to fit particular roles and matching them to your needs.
Call us to see if we can help you find the people you need to move your organisation to its next level.[1] These titles vary – Trustee, Board Member, etc. and Chair, Chairman, President, etc. For simplicity we refer here to Chairs and Trustees.
[2] Again, this may be a Managing Director, General Secretary, Chief Executive, Director, Director General, etc. For simplicity we use CEO here.
