Stafford and Cannock League of Hospital Friends

Founded in 1958, the Stafford and Cannock League of Hospital Friends provides two key interventions, the provision of supported housing for those with enduring mental illness and Coffee Bar and Ward Trolley Services at their local hospitals.

Chief Executive,

Following a strategic review, which aims to raise the profile of the charity’s work and grow the organisations activities, the Board sought to appoint an inspirational Chief Executive who could build on their strong foundations and lead the organisation through the next stage in its evolution.

They were looking for a new Chief Executive with the ability to lead a local organisation working in an increasingly important space. An individual with the ability to develop and deliver the business plan, who could act as an ambassador with key stakeholders including local health trusts and referral organisations for their housing operations, to include the Probation & Prison Services and other relevant organisations. The individual would need to provide effective management of their exempt and supported housing services, to maximise housing occupancy rates, whilst also developing strategies to increase the profitability of their catering operations.

Oxford HR was successful in appointing Martin Thornley, an experienced senior NHS leader, and Trustee of the charity, who has over 37 years’ experience. At the time of his appointment, he held the post of Project Lead at the West Midlands Regional Veterans Service, hosted by South Staffs and Shropshire Foundation Trust.
