Appointment: Portsmouth Sail Training Trust
30 March 2017
Portsmouth Sail Training Trust
The Portsmouth Sail Training Trust (PSTT) is a young charity dedicated to the education and training of young people in the Portsmouth area, helping them break out of the poverty cycle.
PSTT works with 12 to 21 year olds to raise aspirations, support educational development, and help these inner city young people acquire commercially recognised, practical qualifications with transferable skills, to help them break into the job market. It may also, over time, help to alleviate a significant skills shortage which persists in the marine leisure and maritime sector, both locally and internationally.
Chief Operating Officer / Development Director
Following its first two full years of operation, PSTT had already made a significant impact on the lives of over 60 young people and had an ambition to reach 200 per annum by 2019. To achieve this, they were looking for an individual with the ability to provide leadership to a growing organisation. Someone who would have the gravitas to engage credibly with a wide range of stakeholders and the drive to significantly enhance their fundraising capability.
An extensive search, focused in and around the Solent, sought to identify a candidate with a good understanding of the challenges faced by disadvantaged and disaffected school age children.
Lauren Wileman, a member of the senior management team at the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity was appointed to the role, with a start date in April 2017.
